Testimony of Joseph Smith

Hey mom,

The week was great! We did some good work! I got over my sickness and then on Tuesday Elder Rasmussen got sick to so he just stayed in bed all day. So i got to prepare for my district meeting a little bit more. So we have district meeting each tuesday at ten thirty. And i make a lesson depending on what President wants the lesson to be on. Then we practice teach what we have learned. The past district meeting went very well. The spirit was there and i hope that everyone in attendance felt uplifted and motivated.

Tomorrow's district meeting is on the Great Apostasy and The Restoration. So that will be great. I love talking about the Restoration. Its such a blessing in my life. And its crazy to think that people out there have never even heard of it. They are living without a restoration! But luckily i get to go out and find those elect and teach and baptize them. Amos talks about the apostasy and how there will be a hunger and thirst for the word of God. I was reading that scripture the other day and it had new meaning to me after i had had food poisoning. So last Sunday night i was thirstier then i have ever been before. It was crazy. So i sucked on an ice cube, but i ended up not being able to keep it down. And for like a hour and a half i was just chilling up being very thirsty and slowly becoming weaker (yes i was very dehydrated and it was really scary, and im here now so im okay no need to worry) and i was thinking about the things i would do for even an ice cube. What things would i do for a whole glass of water? Go tracting for a six hours straight or bike in really hot weather, just to name a few. What would the people during the great apostasy do to find that truth? They would do anything. I was so thirsty i could not stand it. So i decided to do something about it and in an act of fury and thirst i grabbed a huge glass of water and threw it down. I was pretty scared of throwing it up but somehow it stayed down so that was cool. But my point of that whole story was, think of the times in our life when we are thirsty. People are out there, right now, looking for what we have. They are literally thirsting for the truth of what the Gospel brings. People tried to act in the best way they could and made all of these churches that have some of the truths. Partial truths. Where the spirit could only be there sometime. But luckily we had someone named Joesph Smith sent to earth to question why. Joesph Smith did not go into that grove of trees to start a new church, he did not go into the trees to become a Prophet of God. He went in there because he had questions. He did something about the concerns on his mind. Joesph Smith did not start a church so he could be beaten several times, so he could riduculed from the day he testified that he had seen the Father and the Son till his last day on earth, he did not start a church so that eventually he would be martyred because he knew it to be true, and he didn't start a church so he could leave his wife and his children a widow and fatherless. But he did it anyway. I echo President Taylors words when he says "   Joseph Smith, the aProphet and bSeer of the Lord, has done more, csave Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it.  . Without Joesph Smith i would not be the person i am today. I thank God for Joseph Smith and everything he has done for us. I am eternally in debt to Joseph Smith. I know he is a Prophet of God, And i say this testimony in the name of Jesus Christ.

The young woman we have as our investigator is asking her parents tonight for permission to be baptized. I'm so excited. I'm praying every second i can for this girl's parents to soften up. Anyway we are going laser tagging and mini golfing today! Have a wonderful day. I love you all!

Food poisoning

Hey hey,

So first of all i got food poisoning last night so i have been having to deal with that. Exciting right? I have been throwing up pretty much every since. But everything happens for a reason.

I love my new companion. His name is Elder Rasmussen. He has been out for 4 1/2 months. He came out with Elder Buhler. That is weird to me that Elder Buhler is that old. I'm such an old father! I hit nine months last Saturday. That is so weird. Its going too fast! I still feel like a greenie. My new companion likes to work so i'm happy! Very happy! We street contacted this guy and he is so sincere. He wants to learn more. He almost came to church. He was going to give us a ride. But some last minute things came up so he couldn't. But he is really cool. He will be baptized here soon enough. I will let you know about that :)

So we had a baptism on Saturday. What a great day. She is so awesome. After she was baptized she yelled for joy!  haha. It was funny. It was a pretty stressful weekend getting the service all lined up but we somehow made it and everything went smooth.

So Elder Perry is coming to our mission March 8th!!! How exciting. I cant believe it. It will be so sweet. But the Redding and Anderson zone can't come. luckily i'm down south. But i will also get to see Elder Bowerman, and some of my other peeps. Oh and Elder Buhler. Man i can't wait.

I have a feeling im being transferred this next transfer. I think Elder Rasmussen will train. We will see though. Um nothing really new to report. It will be a good week. I hope i feel better.

Anyway i better go. I love you all!

New companion

Thank you so much for the package! It was the best! The cookies....were amazing. Just a little taste of home so that was nice.

I'm still in Roseville!! Which is sweet. Elder Shock got transferred to Forest Hill. Same place Elder Osejo went after he trained me. So that is pretty cool, he is excited except there has been some pretty eerie stuff that goes on up there. Have fun Elder Shock :) I will miss him, he was great to be around.

Elder Rasmussen is coming in later today. He was Elder Buhler's MTC comp so he is pretty cool and i talked to him last week at zone conference!  I have heard some pretty good things about him.
I'm with my Zone Leader Elder Arnett right now, we are together for the day while our comps come in. Elder Frank is the new Zone Leader up here and he served in the Gridley zone before so I'm super pumped about that.

I have district meeting tomorrow, so that will be fun. Its on importance of church attendence for our investigators. It will be pretty good. I still need to prepare a bit more but i think it will overall be a good one.

We have a lesson in about forty five minutes with our investigator who has been investigating for a while, because his wife is member. I think it has been like twenty years or so. Haha man i love the people i have got to teach on my mission. Anyway i think im going to try to set a baptismal date with him today. That will be really awesome.

Our other investigator that is getting baptized this Saturday is still solid. Pray for her though. She is wonderful.

We met with our 16 year old investigator on Sunday and read the BOM with her. It was nice and she is coming along nicely. We just need to help her parents let her be baptized. We need them to be comfortable with us, and not give the impression we are trying to baptize her and then date her. That's one of their worries. Nothing the Lord can't help with.

Other than that we are just working on finding and perfecting the saints in the ward. There are zero less-actives in our teaching pool right now, so we are working on that. You know how i like my less-actives.

Anyway, I love you guys! Is there anything i can do for you guys? I know Dad is going through a lot with his calling and business but i know he has been called, and prepared from the beginning of time. He is ready and so qualified. he has taught me so much! Man i love him. I hope he enjoyed my letter. happy birthday to him, also to you Mom!

I love you!

We just received a photo card from Elder Simons with tons of wonderful photos on it, so these photos aren't current, but we thought we'd share anyway...

The Book of Mormon changes lives

Hey mom and dad!

Well this week has been an alright one. We get transfer calls on Saturday that will be really interesting. Will Shock go? Will I go?  Who knows. But either way i will take what the Lord gives me and i will run with it or i will run as hard as i can with it.

We had a couple good lessons this week. Our lady who is getting baptized on the 18th is still ready to go. She bore her sweet testimony in sacrament meeting. Which takes some courage, i can barely even do that. And not as well as she did. The spirit was there. And she is ready for baptism that is for sure. I have been thinking a lot of this woman and the Book of Mormon promise or more specifically Moroni's promise where he says that you need to read and pray with a sincere heart and real intent, then the Holy Ghost will truly make himself manifest unto you. More than just a sincere heart and real intent you have to be willing to act on that answer you get. If you want an answer to a prayer or anything you have to be willing to follow whatever answer you get and go out and act. This woman is ready to go and act. She received her answer and she acted. She is a great example to me and she is really awesome to be around. I love her dearly.

I thank the Lord daily for letting me come on a mission and meet all these great people. Im so blessed. Im so lucky.

We read the intro and the first three chapters to the Book Of Mormon with another one of our investigators and she really loved it. She is ready to change too but her parents are very skeptical. Her dad is an atheist. SO we will be working on that.

The Book of Mormon can change lives. But we need to be willing to change our lives first, then the Book of Mormon will do the rest. It has changed my life and it has changed people's lives around me. That book is true. The teachings are true. That book teaches simply and clearly that Jesus is the Christ and that God does love us. Why would someone not want to read that?? Oh yeah satan can blind people. I have met with investigators that dont progress and its because they aren't reading the Book of Mormon. It breaks my heart. But agency is a God-given gift. I can't take that away from anyone. I can control myself. I can help other people but that old saying is totally true you can only bring a horse to the water or something like that. I can tell someone that the Book of Mormon changes lives until I'm blue in the face but until they pick it up and do something and desire an answer it wont change their life.

But i do love this gospel. I do love everything about Moroni's promise. We need to continually be praying about the truthfulness of the Book Of Mormon. Just one spiritual manifestation isn't enough. Pray about it everytime you read it. It will bless your life.

I better go but have a great day!
